Free, secular and democratic: building the Public LIbrary 1853-1913 traced the first 60 years of the Melbourne Public Library. The exhibition told two stories; one about the collections and the other is architectural and follows a chronological path. The exhibition design reflected this delineation with the exterior, architectural elements explored in the white exterior of the space, and the collection story was shown in the rich deep blue interior of the space. The original architectural plan of the library was re-imagined in a contemporary three dimensional design representation at the entrance to the exhibition. Curated by Harriet Edquist
